CHENNAI: SMS advertisements, which used to irritate cellphone users, could soon turn out to be money- spinners with a Bangalore-based firm claiming to pay those who willingly receive the messages.

mGinger.com, started by three engineers, works on the principle of "permission-based marketing".

"People can make anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 1,600 per month through this," Chaitanya Nallan, its CEO, told PTI.

"When users get paid by us, whether it is Rs 300 or Rs 500, it can atleast cover their mobile phone bills," he added.

Chaitanya, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, who graduated from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad last month, said the idea originated from Veerendra Shivhare, the Chief Operations Officer of the firm.

The third member of the team is the chief technical officer of the firm, Anil, an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur.

"People generally get SMS carpet-bombed. Advertisers get mobile phone numbers illegally and bombard them with unwanted ads without permission. Veerendra was so fed up with such messages. We hit upon this idea of targeted advertising with users' permission, for which they get paid," Chaitanya said.

He said people could log on to mGinger.com and register themselves along with their mobile phone numbers and the ads they want to receive. They can choose any number of ads and these will be sent at the time they want, he said.

"For each ad received, the mobile phone user gets paid 20 paise. They can refer their friends and relatives for which they get 10 paise per referral and 5 paise for every ad their friends referrals receive," he added.

Colour_mood_adjustments

1. Adjust the Hue/Saturation: ⌘U/CTRL-U

2. Adjust the brightness and contrast: Menu > Image > Adjustments > Exposure…

Depth of field effect

3. Duplicate current active layer by dragging it to the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

4. Apply lens blur on the new layer on top: Menu > Filter > Blur > Lens Blur…
Adjust according to your own preference.

5. Click on the ‘add layer mask’ button at the bottom of Layer window. Then click and select the ‘Layer mask thumbnail’ (the white rectangle).

6. Select brush tool(b), set the master diameter to 400px. Then choose the focus point in the photo and click on it.

Film effect

7. Create a new layer by clicking the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

8. Fill the new layer with black colour: reset colour to default black & white (d), switch black colour to background (x), fill the layer (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)

9. Set the opacity of the black layer to 70% by pressing ‘7′

10. Use erase tool(e), set the master diameter to 400px. Then start erase the center of the photo.

11. Flatten the image: Menu > Layer > Flatten Image and add noise: Menu > Filter > Noise > Add Noise…

Cinemascope (optional)

12. Add black bars on top and bottom of photo and it’s done!
Use Rectangular Marquee Tool(m) to select (drag) upper part of photo, hold the shift key and select the bottom part, fill with black colour (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)

You can also add an extra step to twist the colour into this mood by using ‘Color Balance’(⌘B/CTRL-B). Drag the slider towards cyan and blue for Shadows, Midtones & Highlights. source

Biggest cluster of dinosaur eggs found in MP

A team of Indian palaeontologists has discovered a nest with 12 dinosaur eggs - the largest in a single nest - in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. The fossilised eggs will be subjected to radio scan to ascertain whether there is an embryo inside them.

"All the eggs were discovered from a single nest on the banks of the Hathini river," researcher Vishal Verma said over phone from Dhar.

Hundreds of such eggs have been found in the Kukshi-Wagh area of western Madhya Pradesh's Manavar tehsil in Dhar, said Verma, director Mangal Panchayatan Parishad. Amateur researchers, including Govind Verma and Rajesh Chouhan, have been digging around the area for dino fossils for more than a decade.

Dinosaur eggs are a great fascination for palaeontologists. The eggs, in their actual form, are said to be hard enough to escape predators' attacks, yet soft for the baby reptile to break through on birth.

"These animals used to come from faraway areas to lay eggs on the sandy banks of the rivers in this area, identified scientifically as Lameta bed. The animals were 40-90 feet in length," said Verma, adding, "The richest dinosaur field in India is in the Deccan Traps near Jabalpur (in central India)."

In 1828, then East India Company Army Captain, William Sleeman, was the first to find a cache of large bones in the Jabalpur Cantonment. Since then, several discoveries have been made in the Narmada valley in Jabalpur in the state to Kheda in Gujarat.

The eggs in Kukshi-Wagh area were first found in February this year when the Parishad members claimed to have discovered 100 eggs and 40 eggs on two different occasions. "We also found footprints of the dinosaurs through which the 'track way' of the now extinct heavy animals could also be traced," Verma, said.

Verma, who has been associated with such discoveries for over a decade, hopes that such discoveries would open the doors for science tourism in Madhya Pradesh.

He said: "The discovery of more fossilised eggs of herbivorous dinosaurs belonging to the early Cretaceous era - that dates back to 65 million years or so - is expected to go a long way in the study of the pre-historic life in the Narmada Valley."

Dinosaurs are believed to have ruled our earth for 165 million years. In fact their rule ended only about 65 million years ago. Later these giant reptiles became extinct. The hard body parts of the animals get fossilised under favourable conditions. Researchers get clues about the 'life style' of the dinos only through their fossil bones, eggs, coprolites (fecal matter) and footprints.

Verma said that dinosaur eggs were discovered from the same site in the past too, but there were only six or seven eggs per nest. This is the first time that so many eggs have been recovered from the site, he added. The find is a significant step in the study of pre-historic life in the Narmada Valley, which has been attracting palaeontologists from across the world since 1818.

The Parishad had earlier also discovered other findings, including of pre-historic humans like jewellery made from shells, elephant teeth and weapons made of bones and stone.

"With the latest find, the scientists would be able to know more about the reasons of the extinction of dinosaurs. The nesting site would throw light on the variety of dinosaurs that existed in the Cretaceous era," said Geological Survey of India's Director (Palaeontology) DM Mohabey.

Mohabey, who visited the area from May 11 to 13, has confirmed that the bones discovered by the Parishad members earlier were of dinosaur and has promised to get the area declared 'protected'.

Endangered turtle found in remote Cambodian region

Phnom Penh: A colony of one of the world's largest turtles has been found in a remote stretch of the Mekong in Cambodia, raising hopes the species can be saved from extinction, environmentalists said yesterday.

Scientists of Conservation International (CI), WWF and Cambodia's fisheries department said they had caught and freed an 11kg female Asian giant soft-shell turtle during a survey of the river in March.
They also found the turtles' nesting ground in a riverbank in the northeastern province of Stung Treng, a former stronghold of the Khmer Rouge guerrillas, around 180km north of Phnom Penh.

"This incredible discovery means that a unique turtle can be saved from disappearing from our planet," CI biologist David Emmett said in a statement.

"We thought it might be almost gone but found it in abundance in this one pristine stretch of the Mekong, making the area the world's most important site for saving this particular species," he said.

The turtle, which spends 95 per cent of its life hidden in sand or mud with only its eyes and nose showing, can grow up to two metres long and weigh more than 50kg.

It is thought to exist in India, Bangladesh and southeast Asia, although years of being hunted for its meat means it now sits on the IUCN conservation union's "red list" of threatened species, the same level as tigers and pandas.

Ironically, it's poor Spidey who, for a while, gets confounded about the good and the bad. By the time he finds his level, so does the plot.

Bulging with enormous swings and strides, Spider-Man 3 is both endearing and exasperating - endearing for its devious blend of bustle and burlesque and exasperating, because at the end of the long elaborate homage to computer-induced hi-jinks you know you were being taken for a ride.

But what a rollicking ride, made smooth and sinuous by the cool and confident actors who suspend our disbelief by pulling out all stops that segregate the world of the imagination from the realm of the everyday and the mundane.

This film by Sam Raimi, epic in every proportion, sweeps us into a domain of the devastatingly dishy.
