TN coast on alert as Cyclone ‘Ward' prowls Bay of Bengal, Next, cyclone Ward in northern Indian Ocean,

The Tamil Nadu coast has been put under cyclone alert on Friday after the previous day's depression intensified double-quick into a deep depression and further into a cyclonic storm, named ‘Ward.'

India Meteorological Department said Tropical Cyclone Ward lay centred 550 km southeast of Nagapattinam and 700 km south-southeast of Chennai on Friday afternoon.

The system is likely to move in a northwesterly direction towards Tamil Nadu coast during the next two days. The IMD's outlook is exactly in agreement with that of the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC) and the Tropical Cyclone Page of the US Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Centre (FNMOC).

The IMD has rightfully expressed doubts about the onward movement of ‘Ward' as did international models thanks to the persistence of westerly flows from a prevailing western disturbance affecting northwest India.

It said that the satellite-derived steering wind in the upper levels would go to suggest a northerly to northeasterly movement of the system, which could cause it to avoid taking a swipe of the Tamil Nadu coast.

But a precipitation model of the US National Centres for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) tends to suggest that the westerlies would cause Tropical Cyclone Ward to steer itself north-northeast after taking a shot at the Chennai coast over the next two days.

According to the NCEP, the rampaging westerlies would drive away ‘Ward' into coastal Bay of Bengal waters in a north-northeasterly direction all the way into the Bangladesh/Myanmar coast, and fling the weakened system into the hinterland.

Once again, IMD has thoughtfully decided to strike the line of caution saying that it has kept the system behaviour ‘under close watch.' But in any case, the cyclone alert is ‘on' for the Tamil Nadu coast. Read more

Defunct satellite expected to hit Earth in March first week

Offcials have said that a dead US spy satellite in deteriorating orbit is expected to hit the Earth during the first week of March.

It is not known until now that where will the satellite hit.

Officials familiar with the situation say about half of the 2,270 kilograms spacecraft is expected to survive its blazing descent through the atmosphere and will scatter debris, some potentially hazardous, over several hundred miles.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

The satellite is outfitted with thrusters, small engines used to position it in space, that contain the toxic rocket fuel hydrazine.

Hydrazine can cause harm to anyone who comes into contact.

The satellite, known by its military designation US193, was launched in December 2006.

It lost power and its central computer failed almost immediately afterward, leaving it uncontrollable.

It carried a complex and secret imaging sensor.

US officials do not want the equipment to be recovered by people who should not have control of it.

Where it lands will be difficult to predict until the satellite descends to about 59 miles above Earth and enters the atmosphere.

It will then begin to burn up, with flares visible from the ground, said Ted Molczan, a Canadian satellite tracker.

From that point on, he said, it will take about 30 minutes to fall.

Two new flesh-eating dinosaurs discovered in Nigeria

Researchers have said that two strange new flesh-eating dinosaurs which hunted the rich forests of Africa some 110 million years ago have been unearthed in Niger.

Both ran quickly on powerful hind legs with the aid of a long tail and competed for prey with a third creature, which was previously discovered and which hunted both in and out of the water.

But the three massive predators likely divided up the rich spoils based upon how their body structures impacted their hunting capacities, said lead author Paul Sereno of the University of Chicago.

The heavy-browed 40-foot long Eocarcharia dinops, or "fierce-eyed dawn shark," was likely the main predator as its powerful claws and teeth could tear limbs and flesh off its prey.

Its brow was swollen into a massive band of bone, giving it a menacing glare, which may have been used as a battering ram against rivals for mating rights.

The short-snouted 25-foot long Kryptops palaios, or "old hidden face," also discovered in 2000, was likely a scavenger because of its short forearms and an armored snout better suited for digging into carcasses than for snapping at live prey.

The sail-backed 36-foot long Suchomimus or "crocodile mimic," which Sereno discovered in 1997, likely feasted mostly on fish because of its long, narrow snout and hook-like teeth.

"They show us that very early on and for probably at least 20 or 30 million years meat eating was divided up in a way that we don't have on the northern continent," he said in a telephone interview.

1. What is a Credit Card ?
A credit card often referred to as plastic money, is a card, which is handy to carry and use for shopping or buying goods and services. You use your card to BUY a pair of shoes. You now owe the credit card company the amount paid at shoe store which will be billed to you, at a regular time interval, usually 30 days. More detaisl available here.

2.How is Credit Card different from a Debit card ?
A debit card is authorized only if their are sufficient funds in the account. While on credit card it depends on the cerdit line the issuing company has provided you. The basic difference is in debit card, you pay your own money and in acse of credit card, the issuing company pays for you to whom you have to pay later.

3.What’s the difference between secured credit cards and unsecured credit cards?
Secured credit cards are usually given to those with bad or no credit history. A deposit is made, say Rs5000, which gives the customer Rs500o limit. The customer isn’t allowed to spend more than the amount of the deposit. As the deposit decreases, so does the amount the customer is allowed to “charge”. That’s why these cards are sometimes called prepaid credit cards, or bad credit credit cards(In Western countries, every individual has a credit history, will come to India soon. A person with bad credit history is known to have "bad cerdit") An unsecured credit card is granted to those with a good credit record, because they have a history of paying their bills on time.

4. How are my credit card finance charges calculated?
This is something you need to check out before you apply for a credit card. There are three basic ways finance charges are calculated, and they range from favoring you to favoring them. That’s why you need to know what method they use.
The first method is the Adjusted Balance method, where the balance on your previous statement is added to any charges. Then any payments you’ve made are subtracted, and the result is multiplied by the interest rate. This method is the most favorable for you.The second method works out fairly even. It’s called the Average Daily Balance method, with charges and payments being added and subtracted as they occur. Then, at the end of the statement period, these charges are averaged, with that average being multiplied by the interest rate.
The other method, which will cost you the most, is called the Previous Balance method. The balance on the previous statement is first multiplied by the interest rate, then your charges and payments are calculated. With this method, in effect, you’re paying interest on the same amount twice.

5.My credit card has been stolen – what should I do?
Stealing credit cards is a huge business these days. Credit card fraud is at an all-time high, with identity theft at the source of most stolen credit cards. The first thing you need to do when you discover you don’t have your card is call your credit card company. They’ll immediately cancel your card so no one else can use it. (Always keep the number to call your credit card company in a safe place)
If you’ve acted quickly, there probably won’t be any changes on it. But if it’s taken a while to realize your credit card is gone, then your identity may have already been stolen, with the criminal making charges in your name.

6. Am I liable to pay for charges not authorized by me because of stolen credit cards ?
This is a tricky question. Some cards put your liabaility at Rs500. Most others don't. They hold you accountable for charges made by others. This is only seen in India. In the US, if you call the company and tell them that your card is stolen, then you have no liablity on fraudalent charges. However, in India, our own financial institutions make their own customers scapegoats and haress them. I strongly object to these practices by Indian banks/FIs along with VISA, MasterCard & AMEX.

7. What’s a balance transfer?
A balance transfer is used as an advertising tool by credit card companies. To persuade you to use their credit card, they’ll offer to pay off any existing cards you have, and add the balance to a new card with their company.
Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, the big three of credit card companies, are constantly competing for your business by offering balance transfers at reduced interest rates.

8.What are pre-approved credit cards?
This is another method credit card companies use to get your business. They get a list from a CRA (credit reporting agency), or employers or Luxury car woners, of people who have good credit records and favorable payment histories(Mobile Bills, Club Memberships etc).
These people have a history of paying their debts, so they become prime targets for pre-approved credit card offers. In effect, that’s exactly what the credit card company’s done – they know you’ll pay, so they’ve already approved your application. And to further entice you, they’ll usually offer you a low interest credit card. But watch that interest rate – it could go back up within a short period of time!

9.Do credit cards have hidden costs?
Generally, credit cards don’t have hidden costs. What they do have is extra charges, such as application fees, annual fees or late fees. Although these fees aren’t hidden, you need to read the entire “Terms & Conditions” that comes with your credit card – all the fine print – to be aware of these charges.

10. Can I get a credit card if I’m under 18?
You can’t legally have a credit card in your name if you’re under 18, but there are other ways to get one. You can get a prepaid credit card, or a secured credit card. Or you can get a parent or legal guardian to get a credit card on their account, with your name on it. That’s a great way to start building a good credit record.
If you’re a student, 18 or over, you can get a student credit card. That’s also a good way to start working towards establishing a positive financial picture.

CHENNAI: SMS advertisements, which used to irritate cellphone users, could soon turn out to be money- spinners with a Bangalore-based firm claiming to pay those who willingly receive the messages.

mGinger.com, started by three engineers, works on the principle of "permission-based marketing".

"People can make anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 1,600 per month through this," Chaitanya Nallan, its CEO, told PTI.

"When users get paid by us, whether it is Rs 300 or Rs 500, it can atleast cover their mobile phone bills," he added.

Chaitanya, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, who graduated from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad last month, said the idea originated from Veerendra Shivhare, the Chief Operations Officer of the firm.

The third member of the team is the chief technical officer of the firm, Anil, an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur.

"People generally get SMS carpet-bombed. Advertisers get mobile phone numbers illegally and bombard them with unwanted ads without permission. Veerendra was so fed up with such messages. We hit upon this idea of targeted advertising with users' permission, for which they get paid," Chaitanya said.

He said people could log on to mGinger.com and register themselves along with their mobile phone numbers and the ads they want to receive. They can choose any number of ads and these will be sent at the time they want, he said.

"For each ad received, the mobile phone user gets paid 20 paise. They can refer their friends and relatives for which they get 10 paise per referral and 5 paise for every ad their friends referrals receive," he added.

Colour_mood_adjustments

1. Adjust the Hue/Saturation: ⌘U/CTRL-U

2. Adjust the brightness and contrast: Menu > Image > Adjustments > Exposure…

Depth of field effect

3. Duplicate current active layer by dragging it to the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

4. Apply lens blur on the new layer on top: Menu > Filter > Blur > Lens Blur…
Adjust according to your own preference.

5. Click on the ‘add layer mask’ button at the bottom of Layer window. Then click and select the ‘Layer mask thumbnail’ (the white rectangle).

6. Select brush tool(b), set the master diameter to 400px. Then choose the focus point in the photo and click on it.

7. Create a new layer by clicking the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

8. Fill the new layer with black colour: reset colour to default black & white (d), switch black colour to background (x), fill the layer (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)

9. Set the opacity of the black layer to 70% by pressing ‘7′

10. Use erase tool(e), set the master diameter to 400px. Then start erase the center of the photo.

11. Flatten the image: Menu > Layer > Flatten Image and add noise: Menu > Filter > Noise > Add Noise…

Cinemascope (optional)

12. Add black bars on top and bottom of photo and it’s done!
Use Rectangular Marquee Tool(m) to select (drag) upper part of photo, hold the shift key and select the bottom part, fill with black colour (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)

Biggest cluster of dinosaur eggs found in MP

A team of Indian palaeontologists has discovered a nest with 12 dinosaur eggs - the largest in a single nest - in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. The fossilised eggs will be subjected to radio scan to ascertain whether there is an embryo inside them.

"All the eggs were discovered from a single nest on the banks of the Hathini river," researcher Vishal Verma said over phone from Dhar.

Hundreds of such eggs have been found in the Kukshi-Wagh area of western Madhya Pradesh's Manavar tehsil in Dhar, said Verma, director Mangal Panchayatan Parishad. Amateur researchers, including Govind Verma and Rajesh Chouhan, have been digging around the area for dino fossils for more than a decade.

Dinosaur eggs are a great fascination for palaeontologists. The eggs, in their actual form, are said to be hard enough to escape predators' attacks, yet soft for the baby reptile to break through on birth.

"These animals used to come from faraway areas to lay eggs on the sandy banks of the rivers in this area, identified scientifically as Lameta bed. The animals were 40-90 feet in length," said Verma, adding, "The richest dinosaur field in India is in the Deccan Traps near Jabalpur (in central India)."

In 1828, then East India Company Army Captain, William Sleeman, was the first to find a cache of large bones in the Jabalpur Cantonment. Since then, several discoveries have been made in the Narmada valley in Jabalpur in the state to Kheda in Gujarat.

The eggs in Kukshi-Wagh area were first found in February this year when the Parishad members claimed to have discovered 100 eggs and 40 eggs on two different occasions. "We also found footprints of the dinosaurs through which the 'track way' of the now extinct heavy animals could also be traced," Verma, said.

Verma, who has been associated with such discoveries for over a decade, hopes that such discoveries would open the doors for science tourism in Madhya Pradesh.

He said: "The discovery of more fossilised eggs of herbivorous dinosaurs belonging to the early Cretaceous era - that dates back to 65 million years or so - is expected to go a long way in the study of the pre-historic life in the Narmada Valley."

Dinosaurs are believed to have ruled our earth for 165 million years. In fact their rule ended only about 65 million years ago. Later these giant reptiles became extinct. The hard body parts of the animals get fossilised under favourable conditions. Researchers get clues about the 'life style' of the dinos only through their fossil bones, eggs, coprolites (fecal matter) and footprints.

Verma said that dinosaur eggs were discovered from the same site in the past too, but there were only six or seven eggs per nest. This is the first time that so many eggs have been recovered from the site, he added. The find is a significant step in the study of pre-historic life in the Narmada Valley, which has been attracting palaeontologists from across the world since 1818.

The Parishad had earlier also discovered other findings, including of pre-historic humans like jewellery made from shells, elephant teeth and weapons made of bones and stone.

"With the latest find, the scientists would be able to know more about the reasons of the extinction of dinosaurs. The nesting site would throw light on the variety of dinosaurs that existed in the Cretaceous era," said Geological Survey of India's Director (Palaeontology) DM Mohabey.

Mohabey, who visited the area from May 11 to 13, has confirmed that the bones discovered by the Parishad members earlier were of dinosaur and has promised to get the area declared 'protected'.

Endangered turtle found in remote Cambodian region

Phnom Penh: A colony of one of the world's largest turtles has been found in a remote stretch of the Mekong in Cambodia, raising hopes the species can be saved from extinction, environmentalists said yesterday.

Scientists of Conservation International (CI), WWF and Cambodia's fisheries department said they had caught and freed an 11kg female Asian giant soft-shell turtle during a survey of the river in March.
They also found the turtles' nesting ground in a riverbank in the northeastern province of Stung Treng, a former stronghold of the Khmer Rouge guerrillas, around 180km north of Phnom Penh.

"This incredible discovery means that a unique turtle can be saved from disappearing from our planet," CI biologist David Emmett said in a statement.

"We thought it might be almost gone but found it in abundance in this one pristine stretch of the Mekong, making the area the world's most important site for saving this particular species," he said.

The turtle, which spends 95 per cent of its life hidden in sand or mud with only its eyes and nose showing, can grow up to two metres long and weigh more than 50kg.

It is thought to exist in India, Bangladesh and southeast Asia, although years of being hunted for its meat means it now sits on the IUCN conservation union's "red list" of threatened species, the same level as tigers and pandas.

Government officials, not surprisingly, disagree with the survey’s findings. Former Delhi chief secretary S Reghunathan points out that many officers have had heart attacks at work. “In the corporate sector, you have only one chief,” he says. “But in the government you have five masters — your immediate boss, the executive wing, the politicians, the general public and the media.” Indira Yadav, education director, MCD, too differs with the survey. “Teachers need to worry about the performance of their students. Education officers are accountable if examination results are poor,” she says.

Koteshhwar Prasad Dobhal, director (PR), Assocham, however, insists: “Compared to the work pressure faced by those engaged in fields like construction, banks, hospitals and the media, government officials have it easy". Assocham contacted about 300 people from various fields.

The streets of New York are filled with over-sized goblins and gigantic comic-book villains who seem to pay a tribute to all our favourite comic book characters from "Superman" to "King Kong".

The Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) is a specially created acme of action. A bulky tribute to the spirit of brute force, he romps through the streets of New York overturning cars and morality with democratic velocity.

Ironically, it's poor Spidey who, for a while, gets confounded about the good and the bad. By the time he finds his level, so does the plot.

Bulging with enormous swings and strides, Spider-Man 3 is both endearing and exasperating - endearing for its devious blend of bustle and burlesque and exasperating, because at the end of the long elaborate homage to computer-induced hi-jinks you know you were being taken for a ride.

Something which I had been hearing since my 9th standard has made me lay my first hands on the PC.Its nothing other than chatting which I used to hear from my friends who used to tell me about it.Chatting in those days is done only on one messenger and till today,many of the people in India who want to chat create their first id on Yahoo Messenger .But when you become a little bit tech savvy,you will say everyday and every moment when you open Yahoo messenger that "It sucks badly".Sometimes you ask yourself why other people create id's in it forcing you to still use the Yahoo! messenger.What make the Yahoo messenger suck???

It eats a lot of memory which slows down your PC when you have to run it with another higher application like a game.
It is damn slower in dial ups .It never tries to refresh the connection of user to find whether he is still online or not.It wont even get connected easily.I lose most of my offlines,as Yahoo gets disconnected in slower net connection frequently.
In some networks where there is LAN connection,most of the users stay out online forever,even if they sign out.This may be due to caching.
It never supports a socks connection,You have to use softwares like freecap and socks cap for getting support of socks
Its web cam is blocked in most of the places as all admins in schools and colleges knows its ports and they block it to save bandwidth.
Public Chat rooms never open through proxy.I don't know what their problem is.

The earlier versions of Yahoo! used to be a lot good than the new versions.The messenger is slow for many people and in their new version they even came out with a feature of ads in the lower bottom of the messenger which make it suck more.I don't know how big companies like Yahoo do this kind of softwares.Its good that they are into messenger field a lot earlier.If they had entered the market in the present times ,they will be no where in the middle.

No need of downloading one more messenger named Yahoo multi messenger now for running multiple instances of Yahoo messenger so that you can sign in with your different accounts at the same time.Here is some simple solution I have for you.Just follow the following steps.

If it asks something like this "Are you sure you want to add the information........"----->Click yes and it will say information added to registry.

Firefox has got good tweaking for increasing the speed of your internet especially on broadband.Follow the rules which I'm mentioning below and it will increase the speed of your internet

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30.

This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
